Understanding API aggregation

What is an API aggregator?

An API aggregator gives your application a common integration point for multiple providers. Some normalize different providers into one data model; others focus on connecting accounts, routing requests or collecting data within a particular industry.

How is a unified API different from an API marketplace?

A unified API usually standardizes endpoints and data models across integrations. An API marketplace helps you discover and access APIs that may keep their own schemas and authentication. Check each product’s documentation for its exact model.

What should I compare before choosing a provider?

Check the connectors and operations you need, read and write support, sync frequency, webhook behavior, authentication, regional availability and pricing. A connector count alone does not establish coverage for your workflow.

Does MCP replace an API aggregator?

MCP gives AI clients a standard way to discover and call tools. Those tools can still call an aggregator or the underlying provider APIs. An aggregator handles integration coverage and data access; MCP can expose that access to an agent.
